Thanks John. I fear I missed a trick in not punning at least once about a New Song but there you go. I'll give the Simple Minds album a listen. They're another band who I have high expectations of, but they never cease to underwhelm me. I'm not sure why that is, and live in hope that next time will be different.

I thought the muffling was part of its appeal. I have no idea why this album had the impact it did, but I loved it and I'm glad it's not just me.

Not that I stay glued to the web page on the off chance that someone might post to take their mind off the football this afternoon, but I have it on my list of albums to listen too and am looking forward to that. If you fancy something refreshingly abrasive, try 'The New Sensation' by Idles and if you like it move on to the whole album. And then consider that it was the album I listened to at 06:00 this morning!

I think others would share your impression of St Etienne John. I've bought tickets to see Roxanne de Bastion in a very small venue next year, and I'm surprised how excited I am about that.

I'm wondering what I've started here. I'll give it a go, but there's always the Morrissey factor to get past!

Thanks John. I'm not sure many bands came near the Undertones' early output. Strange Brew's podcast (Jason to you and I) at https://thestrangebrew.co.uk/damian-oneill/ was what prompted me to listen to Hypnotised. It's very good.
