Loved the review of Howard Jones new album. It was flagged as a "you might like" recommendation on my Amazon music account a couple of weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised by this latest effort. There are times when you think he crams in too many effects, but overall very enjoyable. Funnily enough it was recommended within a clutch of new releases from bands whose heyday was in the 80's and early 90s. Not sure if this is as a result of COVID making people have another stab at making music. But some really decent efforts, including a very consistent album from Simple Minds.

Thanks for flagging. Enjoyed listening to the latest album. Funnily enough, I watched the video you linked to first and the vocal style reminded me of someone, but couldn't quite place it. Your reference to Fleetwood Mac was therefore spot on - Stevie Nicks!

Another good pick from you Chris. Hits the spot in a leisurely Saturday evening. And 16 tracks to boot!

Enjoying the new album by The Sherlocks. A good effort considering the change in personnel. A taster:

I was sitting at the PC when this weeks update came in, so thought I'd listen to a couple of tracks from the album and see how it went. 13 tracks later, the album sadly came to an end. What a fabulous listen and not a duff track on it. My only criticism (and it's a small one in the greater scheme of things) is that either the vocals or an instrument is muffled a bit. This is clearly a choice, but not sure why. I've now moved on to the 2019 album "Anxiety Art", which is great so far (stopped to make a brew). No muffling here and potentially another 14 great tracks, if the first 4 are anything to go by.

The enjoyable thing about You Tube and Amazon Music etc. are the "similar" or "associated" acts, that turn up some great music. The latest result of this on my ongoing voyage of musical education is The Institutes

A heads up on a newish London band. No album yet afaik, but the singles are pretty good so far.

Enjoying the latest album "I don't live here anymore". Very melodic with some great use of keyboards. Only criticism is that a couple of the intro's/fades seem bolted on and don't quite fit with the rest of the song. But otherwise pretty darn good.

Listened to the new album after the mention this week. As you say Chris, it is different, but just didn't work for me sadly. A real shame, but I give them some credit for trying something different. The Roxanne de Bastion is a great signpost! Reminds me a little of Metric.

As a way into The Smiths, Meat is Murder is the most enjoyable album IMHO.

Enjoyed the Raf Rundell taster, so will check out the the full album. The vocals reminder me of both Jarvis Cocker and Garry Christian.

Their latest album came up as an Amazon Music hint. I'm quite enjoying this. They have real talent but probably also grew up listening to good music.

Loved the Undertones review. Such a shame that Feargal Sharkey never did much else as a vocalist. There is a video on Youtube from 2011, where he guests at an Erasure gig and performs "Never Never", which was a single when he collaborated with Vince Clarke as the Assembly. Fabulous vocals. That Petrol Emotion and the reformed Undertones never came anywhere near the Undertones early output
